Short Straight Hair - What Are Your Options?
If your hair is
naturally straight, your options for short straight hair styles can
seem limited. But really, if you do a bit of research, get
your favorite stylist involved in the hunt, and are willing to put some
extra time into the maintenance, you have several options. A
lot of women would kill to have straight hair, after all!
You're considered lucky by a lot of your friends. Seriously.
Good
Old Bob
Clearly,
the easiest choice for short straight hair is the classic bob
cut. It was invented for straight hair, after all, and it has
stood the test of time for nearly 100 years now. That alone
tells you what a great hairstyle the bob is. It has survived
massive cultural and beauty changes in that time.
Short hair in the bob style can be fashioned as a classic bob, inverse
bob, side-cut bob, or any of a multitude of other straight
variations. There are also wavy and even curly bobs that your
stylist can probably try out if you ask. In other words, you
have tons of bob options if your straight hair is just begging to go
short!
Shag-a-delic
Another
good style choice for straight hair is the shag. The cool
thing about shag cuts is the ordered chaos of it all. They
look both sexy and sophisticated at the same time, if done
right. Think Sharon Stone on the red carpet. (Or
Twiggy back in the 70s, if you're old enough.) Unless your
hair is very fine - as well as straight - a shag cut is easy to wear on
a daily basis. It requires pretty minimal upkeep, and just
the occasional trim every few weeks to keep it short and looking great.
The
Pixie
Pixies
are another good choice for short straight hair. Some
famously beautiful celebrities have sported pixies to great
effect. Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder, Rihanna, and
Keira Knightley, for example, have all chosen a short pixie hairstyle
at some point, and each of them got rave reviews in beauty and gossip
mags and websites for weeks after.
With any of these short styles for straight hair, you do have to be
careful that your choice fits your face. You want to
emphasize your best features, while taking attention away from any
flaws you think you have. For example, if you have a rounder
face, you can offset that by building in some upward volume to stretch
your face's appearance vertically. A shag is a great choice
in that case.
If you have a very thin face (vertically), then a bob cut that frames
your face and adds width is a better choice. It comes down to
finding the best short straight hair style for you particular situation.
